Early Life and Education
Shipman’s father wanted to become a cricketer, but he could not go ahead for some reason. When Shubman was three years old, he caught the bat for the first time, although it was very heavy, because it belonged to his father.
He said at home that I also want a bat, so his grandfather made him a wooden bat. He used to play on that for a few days. As he was growing up, his interest in cricket was increasing.
Shubhman was also becoming a good player. Shipman’s father understood that his son had the talent. That’s why his father started taking him to a school 25 kilometers away to practice cricket. He started playing and practicing cricket there.
Shubman’s timing and skill were better than boys older than him. He was never out for a long time. Shubman’s game was getting better and better with age. That’s why his father decided that he would take his son to Mohali and get him trained in an academy.
When Shubman was 8 years old, his family shifted to Mohali to make his career in cricket. After coming here, they started living in a rented house. In the cricket academy where Shubman was sent by his father, he was not enjoying himself very much.
Because he was eight years old, he was being fed along with eight year old children. But Shubman wanted him to play with the older boys. One day he came home and told his father that I am not feeling well in the academy.
I want to play with the older boys. His father told the coach that he has to play with the older boys. So the coach said that he will get hurt, he is still small. On this, his father said that you take his trial.
The coach asked a fourteen-year-old boy to bowl for Shubman. He shot at it very comfortably. Then the coach got Suman bowled by the most dangerous bowler of the academy.
He bowled the same ball bouncer as before, on which Shubman hit a cut and hit a four. After that, he hit fours on his next three balls as well.
Everyone present there was surprised at how easily a child is hitting the best baller of the academy. Only eight years old, Shubman was selected by the coach to play in under-14. He started playing on behalf of his academy in the tournament.
In those days Shubman and his father had to work very hard. He used to stay in the school till 2 o’clock in the morning and from 3 o’clock till night he used to stay in the academy.
He used to practice both times on Sunday. At the same time, his father had to struggle a lot to take Shubman to the academy, take him to school and manage himself.
His performance while playing under 14 from his academy was very good. That’s why at the age of just 11, he got selected in the Punjab Under-16 team.
Career
In the year 2014, he scored 351 runs in a tournament. After this, he became famous in Punjab cricket. Then a few days later, Shubman scored a double century in his debut match in the Vijay Merchant Trophy.
Also, he had a great performance in other matches. In the same year 2017, he got a chance to debut in the first class and here too he scored a century in his second match.
From here Shubman got selected for India’s under-19 team. He participated in the 2018 Under-19 world cup. Prithvi Shaw was the captain of this team and he was made vice-captain.
